Condition

The canvas has been relined and there is a 2 by 4cm patch to the reverse upper left. The canvas on which the original canvas has been laid is visible about the edges. There is some frame abrasion with corresponding flecks of paint loss along the left edge and a few flecks near the lower right edge. There is a faint stretcher bar mark with corresponding craquelure along the left edge. There are a few spots of craquelure, mainly in the sky, and there are two light blue marks in the sky upper left, which are apparently retouchings which have discoloured. Ultraviolet light reveals a few small spots of retouching in all four quadrants, and a few larger spots along the left and upper edges. Held in a gilt and painted composite frame.
