Description

Provenance

Sotheby's New York, November 9, 1993, lot 63A
Robert Rubin, New York, acquired at the above auction

Condition

Good condition overall for an object of this type and age. Both open work bracket-shaped elements on either side, as well as hook shaped element representing proper right eye, have been neatly broken and glued, one with metal pegs inserted, possibly a native repair. Nicks and scratches, wear and tear from traditional use. Some of the abrus seeds pressed into dotted relief are missing as seen in photos. Varied dark brown patina with traces of sacrificial material including chicken feathers.
