Description

Comprising an early Lutz floor toy, the heavy tinplate hull finished in red and white, fitted with center mast, two sails, adjustable rudder, and oversized anchor, all raised on three cast wheels. Comes with a Converse "Defender" sailboat, finished in cream and orange with single mast and two sails, a Reed "Thetis" paper on wood boat, fitted with two sailors, and a Reed "Volunteer" schooner, the sides colorfully lithographed with fishermen hauling in their catch. The deck panel of the "Volunteer" comes off to reveal sailors, barrels, and crates of provisions, and is fitted with two of three masts, all raised on four wooden wheels. Accompanied by "Ship Ahoy," a 1930s era board game with folding board with five metal sailboat tokens and buoy spinner.



 



Lengths range from 13 to 22 inches

Condition

The Lutz has some tears to sail, extensive wear, and flaking to hull. The 'Defender' has some wear. The 'Thetis' has minor wear, the 'Volunteer' is missing a mast, rudder, and other deck details. There is a split on the deck and some wear, and the sail has been replaced. Please note that the stand is not for sale and will not accompany the lot.
