Description
- tin, paint
This well-proportioned ship illustrates Schoenner's design skill and eclectic choice in the types of boats they produced. Simple deck details are dominated by the three funnels and five different groups of ventilators that start at the bow and march back to the stern. Deck fitted with tiny cannons resting on armored surrounds. Panel lifts off to reveal horizontal boiler with original burner. Hull is finished in faded cream and marked "Aviso Greif" on either side of the bow. The finish is worn, faded, stained, and beautiful. The age and wearing on this boat work well with its fragile construction and imparts an ethereal feel. Like a pair of favorite frayed and worn blue jeans, the "Aviso Greif's" finish has improved with age.
