Catalogue Note
This copy was inscribed by Eliot and presented to Sybil Colefax before the publication date of 31 October 1944. The wealthy patroness and interior decorator Lady Sybil Colefax (1874-1950) was famous for her literary gatherings and had known Eliot from the time of first publication of Prufrock and other Observations.
Printed on the dust-jacket: "The four poems which make up this volume have all appeared separately .. The author, however, has always intended them to be published as one volume, and to be judged as a single work".
