Catalogue Note
A beautiful Victorian triple-decker, containing the first stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to appear in book form in England, and pre-dating the first printing of the first Sherlock Holmes story which came out in Beeton's Christmas Annual a month later.
The stories are "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement", "The Great Kleinplatz Experiment", "Selecting a Ghost. The Ghost of Goresthorpe Grange", "The Mystery of Sasassa Valley", "The Captain of the Pole-star" and "John Barrington Clowes".
