Catalogue Note
A similarly shaped bottle, with slight variation of the subjects, is illustrated in Robert W.L. Kleiner, Chinese Snuff Bottles from the Collection of Mary and George Bloch, Hong Kong, 1987, p. 12, no. 11. In discussing the Bloch bottle, the author mentions that the elongated oval shape of the bottle is not found in Beijing, but is typical of Guangzhou bottles. He also refers to the broad wash strokes in the clothing of the figures, which is a 'classic example of the Guangzhou style.'
