Description
- Jade, coral
of oval section and rectangular form, the flat shoulder below a cylindrical neck, supported on a carved oval foot, both faces finely carved in low relief with taotie masks comprised of archaistic C-scrolls, the sides set with animal-face masks suspending mock-rings, the stone of an even white tone

Condition
In overall good condition with the exception of one miniscule chip on the shoulder of the bottle, and minor chips to the foot as expected from use.

The present bottle is identical to one in the Palace Museum in Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Snuff Bottles, Hong Kong, 2003, p. 140, fig. 206. A spinach-green jade example, of oval shape but carved with a similar design, is illustrated by Hugh Moss, Victor Graham and Ka Bo Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection, Hong Kong, 1995, Volume 1, pp. 232-233, no. 95.
