Contemporary polished tree calf, spine gilt with gilt-stamped title label; rebacked with original spines laid down.

Catalogue Note
First edition in English of this history of Mexico from the pre-Cortez period, emphasizing exclusively Mexican contributions. Clavijero, a Jesuit, born in Veracruz, was expelled from his native land along with the Jesuit Order, and published this work originally in Cesena (1780-1781).
