Catalogue Note

An urgent bill to collect tax revenue on behalf of the Continental Congress in order "to enable them to prosecute their plans against the common enemy, in conjunction with the fleets and armies of the allies of these States, whose arrival is hourly expected." The act names commissioners to collect taxes falling due on 15 July in the counties of Suffolk, Essex, Middlesex, Hampshire, Plymouth, Bristol, and Worcester. Scarce. Evans locates only one copy in the Boston Public Library, and no copy has been available at auction for the past 35 years.
