Manuscript circular letter signed ("Th: Jefferson"), text in a clerical hand, 2 pages (9 1/4 x 7 5/8 in.; 234 x 194 mm) on a bifolium (watermarked posthorn | gr), Philadelphia, 21 May 1792, to Governor Samuel Huntington, reception docket on verso of second leaf; reinforced at central fold, some marginal repair to horizontal fold separations. Half green morocco folding-case, russet morocco spine labels.

Catalogue Note

Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson forwards to the states copies of recently passed legislation. The present cover letter accompanied the printed acts (not present) sent to Connecticut. "I have the honor to send you herewith enclosed two copies duly authenticated of 'an act authorizing the grant and conveyance of certain lands' &c; also of 'an act to indemnify the estate of the late Major General Nathaniel Greene' &c; also of 'an act for raising a farther sum of money for the protection of the frontiers' &c; also of 'an act to provide for calling forth the militia' &c; ... also of 'an act concerning the duties of spirits distilled' &c; also of 'an act more effectually to provide for the national defence' &c; ... also of 'an act to provide for a copper coinage' ; ... also of 'an act respecting the Government of the territories of the United States.'..." A total of twenty-one acts are enumerated, and a postscript notes that in addition to the acts, Jefferson is also sending "two volumes bound in boards, of the Acts passed at the 1st session of the 2d. Congress."
