Catalogue Note

An introduction with a grand flourish. In his letter of introduction, Houston writes in a large bold hand: "It affords me great pleasure to present my friend . . . Caleb Lyon . . . member elect to the next Congress from New York . . . You will find him a gentleman of the keenest honor and feelings. Mr Lyon is every way worthy of your friendly attentions. He will extend his tour, from London and anything in your power to make it pleasant, I hope you will contribute upon our partial acquaintance, I may press too far, and if I do, you will please excuse me on the ground, of my respect for you and a desire to make my friend happy, by presenting him to you, as he is anxious to become acquainted with you!"
