Constitutions des treize États-Unis de l'Amérique.  Philadelphia and Paris: [Printed for Benjamin Franklin by] Ph.-D. Pierres, 1783



8vo (7  3/4  x 5 in.; 197 x 128 mm).  Woodcut seal of the United States on title-page; very light inked inventory number on title.  Contemporary half calf, spine gilt in six compartments, red edges; some wear.  Half gray morocco slipcase, purple morocco lettering-piece on spine, chemise.

Catalogue Note

First collected edition in French, translated by the Duc de La Rochefoucauld, with significant additional notes by Franklin.  Besides the Constitutions of each of the thirteen states, the text includes the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and three treaties.

One of 500 copies in the octavo format (with 100 additional copies imposed as quartos on large paper).  This is the first appearance in a book of the seal of the United States.  A clean, attractive copy.
