Autograph letter in pencil signed ("Mark"), 2 pages, Heidelberg, 28 June [1878] to William A. Seaver, translating a German joke about a man spitting into his beer; left margin of first leaf a bit ragged, marginal dampstaining. — Autograph letter signed ("S. L. Clemens"), 1 1/2 pages, Elmira,11 July [1883], to "Brer" [Henry C.] Robinson, asking for help in cashing a bank note for $10,000 which would mature on 23 July, referring to a mutually favorite game of billiards ("500-point game"), and reporting that Mrs. Clemens "is still a skeleton, but is freighting up at the rate of an ounce a day"; light soiling and staining on verso. — Autograph fragment in pencil, one half page, being a riddle: "the moment I cease to be able to talk I shall die. Echo (or telephone"; top margin roughly torn. — Autograph letter fragment signed ("Mark Twain"), 3 pages (pp. 2–4 only), n.d. [ca. 1887–1891], [probably Hartford], praising the technological virtues of the telephone; repair to upper margin of page 2, touching 3 words (the letter "s" in "convinces" supplied in another hand).
