Clemens | Mark Twain"), 2 pages on monogrammed stationery, Hartford, 13 April 1877, to a Miss Holmes, makes self-deprecating remarks about his drawing skills: "I regard figure drawing as my specialty although some think I am as good at landscape & still life, these persons even carrying compliment so far as to say they cannot tell my landscapes from my still life, nor either of them from my marine views."; browned, faded, pinholes in upper right corner of first leaf. — Autograph letter signed ("S. L. Clemens"), one page, Elmira, 12 July 1886, to Mr. J[ay] H[ollis] Gibson of Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, New York, thanking him/her for the poem "Why the Germans Wear Spectacles" by "Timothy Tugmutton," published in the Poughkeepsie Daily Eagle, 11 June 1886; numerous glue mounts on verso. Together with: holograph envelope addressed to "Miss J. H. Gibson." And with: newspaper clipping of the poem; browned and mounted to ruled paper. — Autograph letter signed ("Mark Twain"), New York, 8 March [?1901], to [?John William] Lloyd, thanking him for the gift of a book; tipped to a larger sheet of paper. — Autograph letter signed ("S. L. Clemens"), 2 pages on mourning stationery with the 21 Fifth Avenue imprint, New York, 11 February 1905, to Charles D. Burrage, Esq. of Boston, thanking him, with apologies,  for his letter and parcel of pictures which he sent 11 years ago but which only arrived the night before; browned, long fold split on first leaf.
