Autograph letter signed ("Richard Wagner"), 2 pages (8 ½ x 5 ½ in.; 215 x 140 mm) with integral blank,  no place or date [France, c.1860], to Richard Lindau, the composer, singer and author of the French translation of the libretto to Tannhäuser ; a little light staining and fading. Maroon cloth folding-case, gilt-stamped title on spine.

Discussing his financial problems and lack of money, enquiring if Lindau could assist him to get money from Durand the publisher, explaining that his situation is such that he has no shame about revealing to the world his financial plight ("...gegen anstaendige und fein fuehlende Menschen macht es mir durchaus keine Scham, mein zu Zeiten so schwierige Lage zu enthuellen ...").
