Piozzi, Hester Lynch Thrale

Autograph letter signed ("H.L.P."), 1 page (9 x 7 1/2 in.; 228 x 190 mm), no place [Bath], 14 December 1818, to Sir James Fellowes; a few tiny tears in fore-edge. Red cloth folding-case, gilt-stamped title label on spine.

Sir James Fellowes (c. 1771–1857), a physician, was a friend and literary executor to Mrs. Piozzi, who left him her manuscripts and annotated copies of her publications. She writes: "What a shame! To be fast asleep in my Bed and never hear your knock at the Door! Why this was indeed hasta las tardas but I was weary of Mr. Piozzi's company that they praise so, and the dear old stories of 40 & 50 years ago, which Mr. Northcote relates, some truly, some falsely."
