Catalogue Note

This work was Kernoff's winning entry for the Taylor Scholarship in 1923. Kernoff was the first night school student to ever win the scholarship, and he won for both this work in the watercolour category, and for another work in the oil painting category (see lot 56). The scholarship was the impetus for Kernoff's full time enrolment at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art.
