Literature
Niamh O'Sullivan, Aloysius O'Kelly, Art, Nation, Empire, Field Day Publications, University of Notre Dame, 2010, no.118.
Condition
The original canvas is sound. There is some surface abrasion and two small spots of paint loss along the upper edge. There is a small area of very minor craquelure in the building above the two central female figures. There is a small hole approximately 0.5cm. high and some resulting paint loss in the lower left quadrant. There is another tiny puncture in the upper right quadrant. Otherwise the paint surface is stable and in good overall condition.
Under ultraviolet light, there appear to be no signs of retouching.
A fine example by the artist. Held in original frame under glass; unexamined out of frame.
