HE Plate 3 1d. black, used 28 May 1840, S.G.AS20tj,

used on a small entire letter from Dublin to Belturbet, Armagh 28 May 1840, clear to large margins, tied by a red Maltese Cross cancellation, Dublin code '5 E' date stamp of despatch on the reverse and Belturbet arrival the following day; very fine. (S.G. £1,750)

There is an intact small wafer seal on the reverse which reads 'DINNA FORGET' surrounding a thistle. This is most appropriate as the letter is a reminder to Doctor Reilly of monies due his landlord on 10 June. Victorian humour at its best!
