Post Office Telegraph sent from King Edward VII to Lady de Bathe with Newmarket Grand Stand circular date stamp of 29 April 1909 in black, small peripheral tears and creases; fine.

Catalogue Note

The 'Office of Origin' is entered as 'Baja 29' and the message reads .... 'Lady De Bathe, Newmkt, Many thanks Kind Congratulations, Edward R'. Lillie Langtry, who was born and lived her formative years in Jersey, married Edward Langtry in 1874 (died 1897). She married Hugo de Bathe in 1899, who became a baronet in 1907. She became mistress to King Edward and had the popular title of The Jersey Lily.
