picture post card of the 'Clansman leaving Stornoway' sent unstamped within London 5 September 1902, 'OFFICIAL PAID/4 SEP/02/(crown)' circular date stamp of despatch in red, London hooded code 'A' and 'E.R' date stamp in black, which was only used on items of mail from the Royal Households, and King Edward VII's Royal Cypher at the lower left; very fine. RARE.

When Lady Mairi purchased this post card from R.C. Alcock Ltd. it was thought that only three examples of the hooded 'E.R' postmark were known and this example on post card was unique
