Gladstone at the Board of Trade in Whitehall, franked with the 1841 1d. red-brown, tied by the London number '5' in Maltese Cross cancellation in black, circular green wafer seal on the reverse 'FREE TRADE & NO MONOPOLY/FAIR PLAY'; 4 February 1844 envelope from London to Rochdale addressed to John Bright MP, franked with the 1841 1d. red-brown tied by the London number '8' in Maltese Cross cancellation in black, wafer seal 'NATIONAL ANTI CORN LAW LEAGUE' on the reverse; 10 June 1847 envelope from London to George Wilson (Secretary of the Anti-Corn Law League) in Manchester, franked with two 1841 1d. red-brown (both cut-into), red wax seal of the Free Trade Committee on the reverse; average to good. Also an sheet of notepaper with the imprint 'ONE ASH, ROCHDALE' with a verse attributed to John Bright "But life shall on and upwards go, Th' eternal step of Progress beats, In that great anthem, calm and slow, which God repeats", signed in full by him and dated January 27, 1886'.
