1d. lilac Die II '16 dots' Hand-Illustrated Envelopes by James Muir Mathieson,

a series of 15 pen-and-ink embellished envelopes (two are completed in watercolour), sent by Mathieson in Scotland to his girlfriend Isobel Alty at various addresses, mainly Southport and Bristol, between 1899 and 1900. The subjects are primarily of an artist but also include photography, boats and cycling; generally good condition. A VERY FINE CORRESPONDENCE.

Isobel was later to marry Henry Oates, a cousin of Captain Lawrence Oates
