used on a wrapper from Limerick to London 1 September 1840, Limerick code 'E' date stamp of despatch on the reverse and Dublin code '3M' in transit the same day; on arrival in London the wrapper was readdressed, the original 1d. black franking, with red Maltese Cross cancellation, was removed and replaced with the 1d. black Plate 1A FC and tied by a London experimental black Maltese Cross, London arrival code 'H' date stamp and octagonal code 'PD' for onward transmission.
