Condition

Colours: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate although the overall tonality is brighter and more vibrant in the original where the black areas tend more to deep burgundy. Condition: This work is in good condition. Close inspection reveals there are very fine networks of stable craquelures scattered throughout the paint layer, most apparent in the grey areas. Several small rub marks are visible around the edges of the composition: 2 beneath the centre of the top edge; 1 above the centre of the bottom edge; 1 approximately 40cm to the left of this; and 1 approximately 20cm diagonally in from the lower right corner. There are faint areas of media splashes and discoloration, notably to the central sections of the left and right flanks of the composition. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultraviolet light.
