Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate although the overall tonality is creamier and less white in the original work. The catalogue illustration also fails to accurately convey the true depth and shadow-cast relief of the work. Condition: This work is in good condition. There are scattered handling marks to the painted wooden backing board’s edges and corners. There are spots of wear and small paint / media losses scattered in places around the outer edges of the front-most papier mache relief, most notably along the top and bottom edges. Some of these have associated small stable cracks and areas of isolated lifting. There are further small indentations and cracks scattered in places to the front grill surface. When examined under ultraviolet light one retouch is apparent at the lower right corner and one small retouch at the extreme lower edge, located 16cm from the left edge. One small retouch along the extreme left edge located 31cm from the left edge and 30cm from the lower edge.
