Catalogue Note

On the upper left the infant Krishna is shown slipping from his mother's grasp as he lies on a low stool, and attempting to rise on his own.

This occassion was marked by a celebration at which Krishna's parents Yashodha and Nanda invited and entertained Brahmins, as seen at center right.

During the ceremonies, Yashodha, preoccupied with her duties as a hostess, did not heed Krishna's cries as he lay in the yard beneath a cart. To get his mother's attention, the Divine infant kicked his feet up toppling the cart and scattering all the pots that were stacked atop. The ensuing confusion is depicted in detail at center left.

When Krishna was a year old, a demon named Trinavarta attacked him assuming the form of the forceful whirlwind. The gale carried the infant Krishna high in the air. However, the Divine child caught Trinavarta by his neck and choked him. The demon's supine body is seen at lower left.
