Condition
This work is in very good condition overall. There is a slight undulation to the sheet which is presumably inherent in the artist's working method. The sheet exhibits scattered soft creases and occasional hard creases along the right edge. The top edge exhibits evidence of scattered handling stains and drip accretions inherent to the artist's working method. Hinged verso to the matte at intervals along the edges. Framed under Plexiglas.

Catalogue Note
"Polke's paintings are much more than marooned and shipwrecked images, art historical salvage and technical pyrotechnics. His art may have begun as a European response to American pop art, but it went on to be much more. He both dismantled painting and reconfigured our idea of what it could be. He respected history and played the devil with it" (Adriane Searle, "Sigmar Polke -- Sorry I Missed You," The Guardian, June 16, 2010)
