Description

painted in bright colours against an architectural background, the enthroned Mother of God in the centre with the Christ Child on her lap, the apostles, led by St Peter and St Paul, seated on a horseshoe-shaped bench, the personification of Kosmos, wearing royal robes and a crown, holding a white cloth with twelve scrolls, referring to the different languages the apostles spoke after the Holy Spirit had descended, and to the twelve tribes of Israel, is in the lower part, rays of light descend from a dark segment of heaven above

Condition

Visible wear all over the icon. The border partly with new ghesso probably applied in the 19th century. A circa 1cm strip at the bottom of the icon, repainted in the 19th century.
