Catalogue Note

The original figure was modelled by Johann Joachim Kändler, circa 1769. In 1733 he was appointed as 'Modellmeister' (master modeller) of the Meissen porcelain manufactory where he remained until his death in 1775. Most famous for his large animal sculptures and delicate figures, Kändler raised the art of porcelain modelling to new heights.
