the highly detailed saints standing in a rocky landscape with a river and a city in the distance, the gold ground punched, the border decorated with floral motifs simulating enamel, Christ painted on the upper border making a gesture of blessing, the lower border inscribed in Cyrillic: To the church servant from the church of St John, father Feodor, from the faithful parishioners of the St John Church, the year 1907, 21 January.

Condition

Slightly damaged along the border. Excellent condition.

Catalogue Note

The style of painting of the present icon is typical for Mstera of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  A signed icon by Ivan Ivanovich Tyulin, painted in the same style and with similar punchwork, is in the Icon Museum, Frankfurt, Germany.
