Description

  • wood, tempera
  • 108 by 61.5cm, 42 1/2 by 24 1/4 in.
with Christ decending into the underworld at the centre of the icon, crushing the gates of hell and raising Adam from the grave, Eve kneeling and dressed in bright red clothes, King David and King Solomon wearing crowns, together with St John and the Prophet Daniel, the Prophet Moses with Able and other Old Testament figures

Condition

A vertical crack running through the center of the icon. The back and the border of the icon are stripped to the ghesso ground. Some retouching, especially along the crack. An area of restoration in the upper left part of the rocks.
