Condition
The Casket is most unusual and a very impressive piece. There is evidence of restoration and minor damage to the casket as would be expected for a piece of this age and size. For more information read on.
Front:
There is crude restoration to the ivory evident along the front left corner (facing) of the casket. The green stained panel above the mirror on the front section is missing revealing chipped mirror behind. Further cracks and minor losses evident to the front panel. The mirror has been replaced at the front of the casket.
Front interior (draws etc):
The lock retains the original key but no longer works. This has been replaced by a ivory slot holding the hinged panel in place. The eight draws appear to be in good condition with only minor cracks and losses to the ivory.
Right side (facing)
The mirror is cracked, minor cracks and losses to the ivory.
Back:
The corner edges on both sides are restored and chipped. The main body of the panel in overall good condition.
Left side (facing):
Back:
The corner edges on both sides are restored and chipped. The panel to the left of the mirror is coming loose at the bottom. Minor cracks and losses to the ivory generally.
Cover:
The tortoiseshell zebra pattern on the left side almost entirely replaced, similar restoration to smaller parts of the other zebra work on the lid. More minor losses and cracks to the ivory on the rest of the lid.
