Catalogue Note

According to the 1949 exhibition catalogue of Lanceray's oeuvre, the original model for this work dates to 1869.  Casts were exhibited at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St Petersburg in 1870, Vienna in 1873, and Moscow in 1949.
