Catalogue Note

There are a number of lorgnettes, some in Russian museum collections, which bear the mark HW but which are not attributable to the Fabergé head workmaster Henrik Wigström.  According to Tatiana Muntian of the Kremlin Armoury, Moscow, among the St Petersburg masters to whom this HW may refer is Herman Adolfovich Wist, whose workshop was listed at Gorohovaya Street, 33, and was originally established by his father, Adolf Matveevich Wist, in 1911.  Until further information comes to light, this name must remain a suggestion.
