Condition

This large oil on canvas has probably never been cleaned or removed from its original stretcher. The paint layer is in very good state. There is a small piece of paper glued in the lower right corner which contains the inscription, Flowers Caught by High Tide – but the signature and date are original to the canvas. One could carefully clean the picture, but this is a painting that is probably best viewed in its current condition: unlined, uncleaned and un-varnished, with no damages or retouches. It is in excellent condition. The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
