Condition

This painting is generally in good condition. The canvas has been lightly lined. The paint layer is stable and well textured, despite the light lining. The paint layer is probably clean yet quite dry and despite the fact that some of the original colors read strongly under ultraviolet light, there do not appear to be any retouches. Some retouches could be applied around the extreme edges to diminish a few specks of frame abrasion, especially on the top edge, and perhaps a light varnish. Overall the condition is beautiful. The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
