Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Very good condition overall, a couple of small chips to the outer edge.

Catalogue Note

patu wahaika, ornée d'une figure tiki sculptée en haut relief sur le fil de l'arme, et sur le pommeau d'une tête de tiki. L'extrémité spatulée s'amincit en un tranchant prononcé. Belle patine d'usage brune et rousse, brillante par endroits.
Les massues courtes en forme de spatules - patu - étaient utilisées par les Maori à la fois comme armes de combats rapprochés et symboles d'autorité. cf. Wardwell (1967 : 94, fig. 140) pour une massue comparable dans l'ancienne collection R. Wielgus.
