Drilled for electricity. Some minor scattered dents, small areas of rubbing and some minor traces of oxidation to ormolu. In otherwise good condition.

A pair of wall lights of this model at Waddesdon Manor, described as 19th century, from the collection of Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, is illustrated, G. de Bellaigue, op. cit., Vol. II, pp. 804-805, no. 222.

Bellaigue mentions the possibility that the Waddesdon pair may have been made by Henri Dasson (1825-1896) and ties them to a pair sold by Dasson in 1894 described as being "d'après l'original du Garde-Meuble."  This original has not been identified, however, it is interesting to note a modified version of this design with Empire features delivered by Thomire-Duterme in 1810 for Fontainebleau (see: J.-P. Samoyault, Pendules et bronzes d'ameublement entrés sous le Premier Empire, Paris, 1989, p. 144, fig. 119).
