Catalogue Note

Irene Mennen Hunter, a noted philanthropist and patron of the performing arts, inherited the prints from her father, William Gerhard  Mennen (1884-1968).  William was the son of Gerhard Heinrich Mennen  (1856-1902), the founder of Mennen & Co. The company, founded in 1878 most famously produced Speed Stick and Teen Spirit deodorants.
