Description

  • Lewis Wickes Hine
  • 'EMPIRE STATE - THE HIGH SIGN'
  • Gelatin silver print
warm-toned, titled, captioned, and numbered in pencil and with the 'Lewis W. Hine Interpretive Photography, Hastings-on-Hudson, New York' studio stamp on the reverse, 1930-31 (Men at Work, title page)

Condition

This early, warm-toned, print, on double-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally very good condition. The lower right corner tip is missing. The other corners are lightly bumped, and there is a tiny loss at the upper right corner. There is a faint gray line at the top and left edges, possibly offsetting from a prior mat or frame. When examined in raking light, faint silvering in the dark areas and 3 soft creases are visible. This print has been examined with a black light, and it does not appear to fluoresce. On the reverse, there are adhesive deposits in each of the four corners.
