Description

  • Bill Brandt
  • LONDON NIGHT STREET SCENE (BOBBY AND BURGLAR)
  • gelatin silver
the photographer's name stamp on the reverse, late 1930s

Condition

This print, on single-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. In raking light, the following are visible: uneven silvering at the periphery; a 1½-inch soft horizontal crease at the right of the burglar; and a ½-inch soft crease at the left of the officer. None of these affects the overall fine appearance of this photograph. The lower left corner is creased, which appears to break the emulsion. Near the lower image edge there is a faint line of graphite running horizontally partially across the print. On the reverse of the print, the notation 'TR 335-89' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil. When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
