  • 'WHITE BRANCHES, MONO LAKE, CALIFORNIA'
  • gelatin silver
mounted, signed in pencil on the mount, the Carmel studio stamp (BMFA 11) on the reverse, framed, 1950, printed between 1973 and 1975 (400 Photographs, p. 254)

Provenance

Acquired from The Gallery of Photographic Arts, Westlake, Ohio, 1975

Condition

This photograph is in generally excellent condition. The photograph is slightly lifting from the mount in the corners and in a very small section at the periphery. There is a small deposit of original retouching visible in the upper right corner. The mount is in generally very good condition, with some light soiling and age-darkening, particularly on the reverse at the periphery. There are two thin parallel vertical tan-colored deposits of indeterminate nature, on the reverse of the mount near the right edge. None of these condition issues affects the photograph. The reverse of the mount is annotated '23.83 TR' in an unidentified hand in pencil on the reverse. Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career. The authors' assessment of the use dates of stamp 11 on the reverse of this print is 1973 to 1977. This print was purchased by the present owner in 1975.
