Description

  • Edward Weston (1886-1958)/Cole Weston (1919-2003)
  • 'OCEANO'
mounted, titled, dated, and annotated 'Negative by Edward Weston/Print by Cole Weston' by Cole Weston in pencil on the reverse, 1936, printed later by Cole Weston (Conger 945)

Condition

This photograph is in generally excellent condition. There is extremely minor edge chipping along the right edge of the print. Visible in raking light in the upper right quadrant of the image is a small deposit of original retouching. The smooth off-white mount is lightly yellowed at its periphery. Along the upper edge of the mount is an eraser-sized light rust-colored deposit and a faint blue-green translucent deposit of indeterminate nature. On the reverse of the mount are 2 2½-inch strips of linen tape and 3 one-inch remains of adhesive. '47S0' is annotated, probably by Cole Weston, in pencil. Unlike later Cole Weston prints from his father's negatives, this print is not stamped with the customary 'Negative by Edward Weston/Print by Cole Weston' stamp. Rather, this print has that information written in Cole Weston's hand.
