Description

  • Ansel Adams
  • BRIDALVEIL FALL, YOSEMITE
  • gelatin silver
mural-sized, from a Polaroid Type 55 negative, flush-mounted, framed, probably 1950s-60s

Condition

This majestic print is flush-mounted on thin board; the print extends beyond the flush-mount and wraps around the edges of the board. In the lower portion of the print, there is a horizontal gouge that extends across nearly the width of the print; the jagged, intermittent losses appear to have been in-painted. Eight nail holes (6 along the upper and lower edges, and 2 along the left and right edges) appear to have been filled and in-painted. The lower left corner of the mount appears to have been bent, and there is a corresponding crease in the print which breaks the emulsion. Upon close examination, there are scuffs and scratches, some of which break the emulsion (most notably in the central waterfall area), and small gouges. In the upper central portion of the image, there is a slight warm-toned discoloration. Some deposits of retouching appears to have been soiled over time, and there are tiny coffee-colored droplets in the central water area. These disturbances are not immediately visible and do not detract from the grandeur of this print.
