Condition
This photograph is in generally excellent condition. Visible only in raking light in the upper left quadrant are the following: a raised area, likely particles trapped between the print and the mount during dry-mounting; and very small surface scratches. None of these issues detracts from the overall attractive appearance of the print. The bottom left and right corners of the print have minor chips.
The mount edges and corners are lightly bumped. On the reverse of the mount, Negative No. "4 - y - (x)", Credit "Pol. Corporation", and "D." are annotated in inks. Above BMFA stamp 10 is a light deposit of liquid soiling of indeterminate nature (oil?).
Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career. Although the authors' assessment of the use dates of stamps 5 and 6 on the reverse of the print's mount is 1962 to 1963, Adams has dated this print June 1965.
