Description

  • Robert Mapplethorpe
  • 'BANANA'
  • gelatin silver
from a Polaroid Type 55 negative, signed, titled, dated, and annotated in pencil in the margin, 1974 (Polaroids: Mapplethorpe, pl. 181)

Condition

This print, on cool-toned, double-weight, matte surface RC paper, is in generally very good condition. Upon close examination, the following are visible: a 2-inch crease in the upper right corner of the image and margin; a small crescent-shaped crease in the central portion of the image; and a small handling crease in the lower left corner of the image. None of these creases break the emulsion or are visible when viewing the print in its normal presentation. In the upper left corner of the image are 2 small areas of warm-toned discoloration. There are occasional fingerprints and graphite marks in the margins. The margin corners are bumped. On the reverse of the print is occasional very light soiling. '3661' is annotated in pencil.
