Condition

Highly decorative wood panneling from the late 19th century, circa 1890, which shows perfect example of Louis XVI style revival. The painted decoration shows pastoral scenes and allegorical reference to Love. The overall structure is fine and offers various possibilities of fittings depending on the room it will be built up. There are various and expected traces of previous fittings and minor missing elements (small carved elements). There are some holes due to previous electrical fittings. Two horizontal pannels (bas lambris) with horizontal cracks and chips (due to water damages). These pannels shows traces of previous radiator fitting. Extensive but minor chips overall the surface. Door handles are missing. * The painted decoration (pastoral scenes) by Felix Lucas (signed and monogrammed). The floral ornaments and allegorical motifs by C. Pilate (sometimes signed). The painted decoration in overall pretty fine condition despite some minor and expected scratches and stains. The original varnish now discolored gives an overall yellowish aspect. So a light cleaning is recommanded. The ouside (exterior) of two double doors are decorated in neo-renaissance maner on brown tons. The ouside (exterior) of the two other double doors are decorated in Louis XV style (and fit with lot 583). So we drawn your attention on the fact to bring together the two lots (301 + 583). Some refreshments to the decoration, particularly to the gilt ornaments. The chimney piece in overall good condition except that the top has been restored (refixed). In conclusion, these boiserie pannels is in fairly condition, it shows traces of previous dismanteling, it will of course benefit of an adapted restoration when it will be set up again, which is always the case for this kind of decor. Others illustrations are available on www.sothebys.com and on request. An accurate measurement reading in the valable on request. Please note that this lot requires handling charges before being packed and shipped.
