Condition

Good condition overall with surface dirt at several places, especially dark spots in the lion’s mouth due to outside pollution. Minor chips to the edges of the base at several places, and a few fine hairline cracks to the surface of the marble. Very decorative pieces. Catalogue Note

C'est en 1792 qu'Antonio Canova réalise à la demande du prince Abbondio Rezzonico le monument funéraire pour l'oncle de ce dernier, le pape vénitien Clément XIII. Ces lions gardent l'entrée du tombeau au pied du monument à l'église Saint Pierre de Rome.
